ABOUT
Second Nature Farm is a small-scale, non-certified organic vegetable farm located in Burnstown, Ontario.
Second Nature Farm is owned and operated by me, Bryn Callaghan. In 2023, I chose to leave my job in corporate communications to pursue farming as a way to integrate my job with how I want to live - outdoors, active and connected with others. I spent a trial month working at my Uncle and Aunt’s farm in Manitoba (Christopher Farms) to test it out before I made the full jump. I absolutely loved it and decided I would start farming back in Ottawa the next season. Farming has reinforced my belief in the importance of nourishing ourselves with good food, movement, and shared effort. I feel so lucky to do this work and excited to share great food that is grown well with my community.
This will be my fourth season farming. I spent three seasons working at Terramor Farm, managing the farm for two of those years. There, I gained invaluable hands-on experience under the mentorship of Luke and Dana. I’m grateful to be launching my own project with their continued support and to be farming on land I know well. I’ve also spent a winter season at la Ferme des Quatre-Temps, where I deepened my understanding of season extension and efficient farm systems.
The 2026 season will be Second Nature Farm’s first year of operation. Farming on approximately 5000 sq ft, I’ll be using bio-intensive methods to yield lots of great vegetables on a small plot! We grow high-quality vegetables and herbs using thoughtful practices that prioritize soil health and the well-being of the people who grow and eat our food. Produce will be available through a small CSA program and at the Stittsville Market at the Barn.
